Dear Mountain

A Poetry Collection on Love and Loss

About the Book: Dear Mountain is an original poetry collection on love and loss. Written as a chronological account of a real life romantic relationship, the poems are numbered from the author’s first date.

The couple met ballroom dancing. The beloved is named after a mountain. The lines arrived as unexpectedly as the partnership did.

Themes of happiness, grief, healing, family, friends, and wisdom are explored in the three chapters of fall, winter, and spring. Unfiltered feelings and unabridged thoughts capture the ups and downs with passion and nuance. May you find moments of resonance, joy, and solace within these pages.

Mountain and River

You are the mountain
Immovable peak
I am the river
Coursing through your ledges, your veins
I descend from glaciers
My emotions pour out in
Voluptuous waterfalls
From your crevices, your cliffs

They say:
One can move a mountain
If one is determined enough
But I’ve chiseled art into your facades
Reshaped your terrains
I flood, I wane
I bring storms down on your windward side
Leave your leeward side dry
When I miss you at night

I kiss you at river bends
Nurture your crops
Nourish your animal friends
If that day comes
My last drop departs
And takes up residence in the ocean
May adventurers gaze upon you
Point to the place I’ve called home
And tell the story:
There was once a great river
Who graced this mountain
